Wines
Caledonia Winery is a result of Todd Hardie’s 46 year, and continuing, love affair with bees. Todd began keeping bees on his family’s farm in 1965, and has been a honey man ever since. In 2006, after years of working the hives, Todd enlisted the help of a local winemaker, and began to experiment with small lots of mead.
Today Todd works with winemaker Joe Buswell out of a river side property in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. The two craft their honey wines, or meads, in 500 liter lots, with all raw honey. They never heat the honey, ferment cold, and allow all meads to age at least a year before bottling. The result is mead made in a similar style to the great meads of antiquity, with on openness to modern technique.
Black Currant Mead (12% abv)
This mead is crafted from pure raw Northern Honey and Vermont grown organic Black Currants. This is a powerful offering that truly showcases Cassis. Bold, yet refined, this offering can be enjoyed on its own, or still stand up to hearty food.
Blueberry Mead (12.4% abv)
This blueberry mead is off-dry, with a vibrant honey character. We use three quarters of a pound of organic Maine blueberries per bottle, and only pure raw Northern Honey for fermentation. The wine is fermented dry, aged in stainless steel for a year, and has a small touch of honey added just before bottling for roundness.
